Classes on Offer September & October, 2025
Artistic Sculptural Metalwork, 27 & 28 September, 2025 (2 days) Byron College, Mullumbimby
In this sculpture class you’ll explore different metalworking techniques in a safe and fun environment. These include, cutting, fixing (including welding) bending and shape forming metal, depending on the design you choose.
This class is a logical choice if you are a previous welding student or existing hobbyist who wants to expand your artistic and practical skill base. Novices who want a safe “taste” of metalwork, are also encouraged to participate.
The focus is on upcycling metal objects into sculptural creations for the home and garden.
An Introduction to Welding, 4 & 5 October, 2025, (2 days) Byron College, Mullumbimby
If you’ve always wanted to learn electric welding but have never had the opportunity, or you may simply want to hone your welding skills, then here’s your chance. Step by step we’ll explore how to prepare a space, and yourself, for safe and effective welding. There'll be plenty of hands-on tool’s action to practice your welding skills as well as steel grinding, sanding and pop riveting.
All this while creating very own decorative steel jewellery/ pencil case to take home. There’ll be the added bonus of having ample time to experiment with gasless MIG and the original (and some say best) Arc/Stick welder.

Car Maintenance Intro, 22 November, 2025, (1 day) Byron College, Mullumbimby
This short, practical course is designed for drivers — or soon-to-be drivers — who aren’t mechanically minded but want to feel more confident around cars. Whether you're tired of feeling lost under the bonnet or frustrated by confusing conversations with mechanics, this course is here to help.
Gain hands-on experience and essential knowledge in:
- Understanding how car engines and related systems work
- Performing basic safety and maintenance checks
- Speaking confidently with mechanics using the right terminology
- Changing a tyre or fuse, and jump-starting a vehicle safely
Delivered face-to-face at the Byron College, Mullumbimby campus, the course blends classroom learning with real-world, practical sessions nearby. Step by step, we demystify car care in a way that’s clear, supportive, and empowering.
This course is ideal for those who want to take control of their car care in a fun an accessible setting.

We currently run classes at the Byron Community College at the Mullumbimby Campus, Northern Rivers NSW. We've also run classes at the Lismore Arts Space (now closed) and as far as Cooktown, far north Queensland.

Our highly trained team is led by award winning Artisan Nyree Louise Smith who alone has over 30 years experience with metalworking and tools.
